#21 Baseball Drops Close Game to (RV) Augustana

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The #21 Kalamazoo College baseball team dropped a close 4-2 battle to (RV) Augustana to finish the Florida trip on Tuesday (Mar. 26). The Hornets now have a record of 11-4 on the season, and the Vikings stand at 13-5.

Scoring Plays

Kalamazoo scored the first two runs in the second inning to grab a 2-0 lead. After Robert Newland walked to begin the inning, advanced to second on an error, and stole third, Lukas Bolton brought him in on a fielder's choice. Alex Fenkell ended up on third after reaching on the error, stealing second, and advancing to third on the fielder's choice. Ryar Rinehart collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly that brought in Fenkell for the second run.

Unfortunately, Augustana scored the four other runs in the game, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Vikings totaled six hits on the day and scored the runs on a solo home run, an RBI double, and two RBI singles.

Pitching

Logan Lockhart threw four innings in his first career collegiate start on the bump, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Gabe Sokol got the call in the fifth inning and allowed one run on a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Robert Ahlgren (2-1) was hit with the loss out of the bullpen after facing four batters and not recording an out. Ahlgren allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, a walk, and an error on the Kalamazoo defense.

Owen Schihl had his longest outing as a Hornet, going three scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout. Brenden Oprinski needed nine pitches to get through the ninth inning and struck out two. 

Hitting

David Stechow was 2-4 at the plate, with Tanner Hawkins and Ryar Rinehart picking up the other two hits. Lukas Bolton and Rinehart had the two RBI, and Robert Newland found his way on base three times with three walks.
