HOLLAND, Mich. - The #24 Kalamazoo College baseball team took the first game of the MIAA series against Hope 15-3 in eight innings on Monday (Apr. 8). The Hornets' record improved to 17-5 (6-1 MIAA) on the season, and the Flying Dutchmen's fell to 11-12 (5-2 MIAA).

Kalamazoo held a 6-0 lead after three and a half innings with a run in the first, two in the third, and three in the fourth. Harrison Poeszat started his big day with an RBI single in the first that brought home Cooper Mills. The two runs in the third came around on a Robert Newland sacrifice fly and an error by Hope. Poeszat blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to plate Mills and Tanner Hawkins for the six-run advantage.

The Flying Dutchmen responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth innings, one of which was unearned due to an error by the Hornets. Hope added one more run in the fifth to cut the K lead to 6-3.

Poeszat got the three runs back on another three-run home run in the sixth inning, with Mills and Hawkins scoring again. The Hornets scored the final six runs in the eighth inning. Newland singled to bring in Hawkins and David Stechow, Cade Preissing scored on a Flying Dutchmen error, and then Cam Kelly belted his first career home run on a three-run shot.
