Baseball Falls in Rubber Game to Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team finished the season series against Hope with a home game and fell 14-0 in seven innings on Tuesday (Apr. 16). The Hornets' record dropped to 19-8 (8-4 MIAA) on the season, and the Flying Dutchmen Improved to 16-12 (10-2 MIAA).

Scoring Plays

Hope started fast with five runs in the first inning on three hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. The Kalamazoo pitching staff settled in for a couple of innings until the Flying Dutchmen scored two more in the fourth on four hits. Hope added one run in the fifth on a hit and a wild pitch and then another three runs in the sixth off four hits. The final three Flying Dutchmen runs came on a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

Pitching

Gabe Sokol (1-1) recorded one out in the first, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks. Chase Cummins threw the next 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and a walk.

Reece Omodio surrendered one run in the fifth, Kaden Sotomayor allowed three runs in the sixth, and Ben Van New was charged with three runs in the seventh.

Hitting

Harrison Poeszat, Ryar Rinehart, David Stechow, and Daniel Beccari each collected a hit. Alex Fenkell, Liam Regan, and Ryan Witt all walked once. Leo Schinker and Riley Weber were both hit by a pitch.
