Three Hornet football players receive preseason recognition

Three members of the Kalamazoo College football team have been recognized as Division III Preseason All-Americans by USA College Football.

Jake Larioza was named to the third team while Alan Mencer and Connor Rzeznik received honorable mention recognition.

Larioza, a senior defensive end from Fowlerville, Mich. (Fowlerville HS), was an All-MIAA Second Team selection last season after leading the Hornets in fumble recoveries and tying for the team lead in sacks (5.0). 

Mencer, a junior defensive end from Novi, Mich. (Novi HS), was an All-MIAA First Team selection last season. Mencer tied for the team lead in sacks (5.0), was second on the team in tackles for loss (12.5), and set a school record for longest fumble recovery returned for a touchdown (98 yards).

Rzeznik, a junior linebacker from Walled Lake, Mich. (Walled Lake Central HS), earned All-MIAA First Team honors after leading the Hornets in tackles for loss (15.5) and sharing the team lead in sacks (5.0). He was third on the team with 52 total tackles.

Kalamazoo College opens the 2013 season at home against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
