Football Lands Three on Academic All-District

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - In a release by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday afternoon, Hunter Angileri, Noah Coplan, and Greg Kearns were all named Academic All-District honorees. 

Angileri, a senior from Southgate, Mich. (Southgate Anderson), is in his third year as the starting center for the Hornet football team. He holds a 3.90 cumulative GPA throughout his time at Kalamazoo while majoring in Chemistry. Angileri is a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member and is now a two-time selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team. He is the anchor of an offensive line that contributes to 152.8 rushing yards per game in MIAA play and 315.0 total yards per game. 

Coplan, a junior from River Forest, Ill. (Oak Park & River Forest), sports a 3.65 cumulative GPA in Business while playing consistently on the Kalamazoo defensive line all three years with the team. This season, he has made 51 total tackles including 29 solo tackles. He also has 4.5 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup. Along with being named to the All-MIAA First Team in 2018, Coplan earned his second straight MIAA Academic Honor Roll recognition.

Kearns, a senior from Howell, Mich. (Howell), like Angileri, is being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team for the second straight season. Kearns has also been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll all three years. He carries a 3.72 cumulative GPA in Business during his time at Kalamazoo. Kearns has connected on all seven of his field-goal attempts this season while converting on 19 of 20 extra-point tries. He was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week once this season and four times throughout his career. His 28 made field goals are second all-time at Kalamazoo while his 80 percent field-goal percentage is the tops in the history of the program. 

CoSIDA District 6 includes NCAA Division III schools in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. All three Hornets will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
