Kalamazoo College Ends Spring Football Season

Kalamazoo College is ending its 2021 spring football season in response to an increased number of player injuries. After consulting with the College's medical team and administration, the team will forgo the rest of the spring season and focus on preparing for the fall 2021 season.

"This year has brought some immense challenges with the pandemic and the disruption to our normal conditioning and practice schedule. As a result, it is in the best interest of our student-athletes to focus on strength and conditioning and training for a full fall season rather than continuing to risk further injuries this spring," said Athletic Director Becky Hall. "We have exhausted all options to continue the season and this was the best decision for the health and safety of our team."

Coach Jamie Zorbo said, "While incredibly disappointing, I am confident that this is the right decision for the Hornet football program at this time. I am so proud of our team and the sacrifices they made to even get to this point. This is not what we planned, but we did the best we could within the parameters we were given. We will honor our seniors and will continue to work in preparation for a successful fall season."

The team was able to play two games prior to the decision to end the season. President Jorge Gonzalez said, "I am very proud of our Hornets and glad that they had the opportunity to compete, if only briefly. I know this is disappointing for our players and their fans, however, I am supportive of this decision, which was made to protect the health and safety of our student-athletes. I look forward to cheering the team on next fall."
