Football Drops Season Finale to Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its season finale 42-19 to Trine University on a cold and rainy afternoon at Angell Field.

Trine scored twice in the first quarter and three times in the second quarter to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.

After trailing 42-0 early in the fourth, Kalamazoo scored three touchdowns in the final 10 minutes to make it a 42-19 final.

Trine put up 487 yards of offense compared to 308 yards by Kalamazoo. The Hornets turned the ball over twice, both resulting in Trine touchdowns.

Josh Nichols was 15-of-34 passing for 107 yards with a touchdown. Dawson Skupin was 6-of-14 passing for 54 yards with a touchdown.

Sheldon Riley gained 52 yards on 10 carries. Jon Brunette had 37 yards on eight carries. Conner Bell had 34 yards on nine carries including a 3-yard touchdown run.

Noah Piercy had 72 yards receiving on three catches. DaShawn Meeks had 51 yards on five catches with a 21-yard touchdown. Bubba Wilson had five catches for 29 yards. Jonah Spates had two catches for 20 yards. Lance Taylor had two catches for 18 yards with an 8-yard touchdown.

Carson Deines led the Hornet defense with nine tackles with three tackles for loss including two sacks. Blake Kelsey had nine tackles 3.5 tackles for loss including one sack. Ryan Hanifan had eight tackles.
