Ghafari scores 20 points in Men's Basketball loss to Hope

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 82-55 to Hope on Wednesday in the Anderson Athletic Center.

Kalamazoo jumped out to an early lead, going up eight points (12-4) in the first four minutes of the game. Hope battled back to tie the score at 14-14 with 13:43 left in the half and scored the next eight points to take a 22-14 lead. The Flying Dutchmen extended the lead to double digits (27-15) with 6:50 left before taking a 40-22 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo cut the deficit back to 12 early in the second half, but Hope held on and eventually pulled away over the final eight minutes.

Hope shot 55.9 percent overall while sinking 14-of-18 free throws. Kalamazoo shot 35.6 percent and went just 8-for-21 at the line. Hope also held a 41-32 advantage in rebounds while scoring 44 of its 82 points in the paint.

Mark Ghafari led Kalamazoo with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Eric Fishman finished with nine points and five rebounds. Mike Oravetz and Aaron Schoenfeldt each added six points off the bench while Grant Carey and Carter Goetz scored five points apiece.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Albion on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.
