Men's Basketball wins 78-76 at Albion

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won 78-76 at Albion College on Saturday.

Albion jumped out on top early taking a 10-3 lead just over three minutes into the game. Kalamazoo evented the score at 12-12 just three minutes later. Ten lead changes later saw Albion with a 40-36 lead at halftime.

There were seven lead changes in the second half with neither team leading by more than six points. Mark Ghafari sank a pair of free throws to put the Hornets up five with four seconds left, essentially putting the game out of reach and securing the win for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo shot 51.6 percent overall, its second best shooting performance of the season. Albion shot 49.2 percent. The host Britons held a 35-29 edge in rebounds, including 10-7 on the offensive end.

Mark Ghafari finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

Mike Oravetz scored a career-high 22 points with six rebounds in 33 minutes off the bench.

Grant Carey added 11 points while Eric Fishman finished with 10 points and four assists.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Adrian on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m.
