Fishman scores 1,000th point in 70-62 win over Adrian

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team defeated Adrian 70-62 in the Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo took an early lead and used a 12-0 run to take a 28-11 lead with 5:18 left in the half. The Hornets extended the lead to 19 points (35-16) with 3:40 rermaining before Adrian closed out the half with six straight points to make it a 13-point game (35-22) at halftime.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to two points (40-38) five minutes into the second half, but Kalamazoo never gave up the lead. The Hornets regained a double digit lead midway through the half and still led by 12 (62-50) with 6:19 remaining. Adrian made another run cutting the deficit to five (63-58) with 2:43 left, but the Hornets held on to secure the 70-62 win.

The Hornets shot 44.9 percent overall while hitting 20-of-30 free throws. Adrian shot 39.7 percent while making 4-of-6 free throws. Adrian outrebounded Kalamazoo 39-30, including 10-2 on the offensive end. Kalamazoo turned the ball over just six times compared to 11 turnovers by Adrian.

Eric Fishman led Kalamazoo with 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists. The senior also became the 21st player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points.

Mark Ghafari scored 15 points with four rebounds and three assists. Adam Peters added 14 points with eight rebounds. Aaron Schoenfeldt scored 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench.

Kalamazoo will host Alma in the final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m.
