Ghafari named MIAA Player of the Week

Kalamazoo College's Mark Ghafari was selected as the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

A senior from Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich. (Grosse Pointe University Liggett HS), Ghafari averaged 31 points per game as the Hornets opened their season with two victories in the MIAA/Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge at Kalamazoo. He poured in a career-high 42 points, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, in a 93-87 victory over Manchester, Ind. He added 20 points to go over the 1,000-point mark for his career and chipped in five rebounds in a 102-93 win over Earlham, Ind.

Ghafari, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time in his career, made 57 percent of his field goal attempts (17 of 30), 67 percent of his 3-point tries (8 of 12) and 91 percent of his free throws (20 of 22) for the tournament.

Kalamazoo (2-0) hosts Bluffton University on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m.
