FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team dropped a 110-74 decision Saturday, Jan. 4 against Division I opponent Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW).

The Hornets hung with the host Mastodons for the first several minutes. Kalamazoo held the lead 3-2 when junior guard Carter Goetz hit a layup and converted the old fashioned three point play.

After a quick 5-0 run from IPFW, Kalamazoo freshman forward Chase Baysdell connected from beyond the arc giving K an 8-7 lead.

Isaiah McCray made a jump shot a minute later to regain the lead (9-8) for the Mastodons.

Kalamazoo would not lead again. IPFW took a 54-39 lead into halftime and continued to extend the lead in the second half.

Freshman guard Adam Dykema led the Hornets with a career-high 20 points on 8-13 shooting from the field. Goetz finished with 17 points while Baysdell chipped in 10.

IPFW held junior forward Adam Peters to just six points in the game. Kalamazoo senior guard Mark Ghafari did not play.

Kalamazoo shot a respectable 46 percent from the field, but IPFW shot a staggering 64 percent. The Mastodons held a distinct advantage from the free throw line hitting 18 free throws compared to just five for K.

The Hornets drop to 5-6 on the season and will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Jan. 8 with a home game against Albion. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
