Whitewater, WI – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 89-53 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road Saturday night. The Warhawks are the defending NCAA Division III National Champions and are currently the No. 3 team in the nation. The loss sends the Hornets back to .500 at 5-5 this season.

Kalamazoo fell behind early, and was never able to get itself back in the game. The Hornets were down 15-4 after five minutes of play. The closest Kalamazoo came within Whitewater in the first half was twelve points. Adam Peters was a bright spot for the Hornets in the first half; he had seven points on 3/3 shooting including a three pointer. Adam Dykema also had a three pointer in the first half while adding seven points and four rebounds. The Hornets wound up trailing 48-27 at the half.

The second half didn't go much better for the Hornets. The Warhawks extended their halftime lead by 15. Adam Peters finished the game with 12 points on 5/7 shooting. Dykema was the leader off the bench again with eight points and six rebounds. Carter Goetz provided five rebounds off of the bench and Josh Miller had four points, four rebounds, and a block.

Even though the Hornets lost by such a large margin there are a lot of positives to learn from a game like this. The team knows if they want to get better they have to beat the best, and tonight they tried to beat one of the best.

Kalamazoo will have ten days off now after its back to back games in Wisconsin. The team doesn't play again until Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Elmhurst.
