Carl Ghafari playing basketball

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was defeated 78-53 by Alma on Saturday afternoon. It was the men's last game of the season. Before the game the team's seven seniors were honored as it would be their last time playing in front of the Anderson Athletic Center crowd. Adam Peters, Aaron Schoenfeldt, Carl Ghafari, Carter Goetz, Scott Wharam, Matt Jong, and Stephen Oliphant all stood with their loved ones at center court to a standing ovation before tip-off.

The Hornets got off to a pretty strong start in the first half. They led 9-6 a little over six minutes into the ball game. After the initial nine minutes Kalamazoo allowed Alma to go on a few mini-runs and gain a sizeable lead. Adam Peters really shined in the first half for the Hornets with nine points, seven rebounds, and a block all before halftime. Kalamazoo trailed 38-27 at the half.

Things got away from the Hornets in the second half as they allowed the Scots to shoot 52 percent from the field. On senior day, freshman Charlie Carson was a huge bright spot as he came into the game in the second half and scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting including three big buckets from downtown. Adam Peters finished his collegiate career with a team-high 12 points and nine rebounds, and senior point guard Carl Ghafari dished out a team-high five assists. All of the seniors were given an opportunity to be on the court during the final five minutes of the game and were brought off to cheers from the crowd and hugs from their coaches and teammates.
