KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Looking to capture its first win in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team came up just short in its first home game since the calendar rolled to 2017. The Hornets fell to the visiting Trine University Thunder, 65-62, Saturday afternoon in front of a ruckus crowd inside Anderson Athletic Center.

After Kalamazoo jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead the Hornets didn't regain the lead until the second half but found themselves down just 31-27 at halftime thanks to a three-point buzzer-beater from Josh Whitney capping off the first 20 minutes.

Still trailing 41-34 with 14:38 to play in the second half, Kalamazoo rattled off an 11-0 run regaining the lead and ultimately stretched its lead as large as seven with 9:48 to play.

The Thunder worked their way into the bonus early in the second half and made timely free throws down the stretch not allowing the Hornets to hold onto their lead down the stretch.

Josh Miller played a key role off the bench for the Hornets recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Tommy Cerven also provided a spark off the bench for K, scoring 13 going 3-for-5 from downtown. Chase Baysdell also ended the afternoon with 13 points.

Kalamazoo will look to get its first MIAA win this Wednesday when the Hornets host Albion.
