Men's Basketball Wins at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won 82-81 at Olivet College Saturday night.

The host Comets led by as many as eight (19-11) early in the game. Kalamzoo battled back and the teams traded leads throughout the half. Tanner Blyly hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to cut Kalamzoo's deficit to one (43-42) heading into the locker room.

The second half was back-and-forth as well and the Comets pulled ahead by two with seven seconds remaining. Following a timeout Kalamazoo pushed the ball up the floor and Ben Reiter knocked down a 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds left to lift Kalamazoo to victory.

Olivet shot 46.4 percent overall compared to 44.3 percent for Kalamazoo. The Comets held a 34-33 edge in rebounds with Kalamazoo grabbing 12 offensive boards to Olivet's 10.

Reiter led Kalamazoo with 23 points and four steals while hitting 5-of-9 3-pointers.

Tanner Blyly scored 19 points with six rebounds and five assists. Drew Sheckell scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with four assists.

Jeremiah Vincent added nine points with four assists while Merritt Hamann scored seven points with six rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

The win moves Kalamazoo into a tie for sixth place in the MIAA. Kalamazoo's next four games are at home including a makeup game with Hope on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
