KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team tipped off its season Saturday afternoon with a 90-88 loss to Ripon College.
The game was a tale of two halves as both teams shot better than 60 percent from the field in the first half and both dropping below 46% in the second half.
Kalamazoo led 52-46 at the halftime break and held the lead throughout the first 20 minutes of play.
Ripon obtained its first lead with 13:56 remaining in the game. The teams played to 13 lead changes following the 57-54 Ripon advantage as the Red Hawks held on to win by two.
Kalamazoo shot 50 percent during the entire game and converted on 15 of 33 three-point attempts.
Ben Reiter led the team with 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Jeremiah Vincent added 19 points while Merritt Hamann scored 11 on 4-5 shooting.
The Kalamazoo bench scored 32 of its 88 total points.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 at Manchester. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 9 p.m.
