Men's Basketball Defeated by Concordia

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 89-84 to Concordia University (Mich.) in non-conference play Saturday afternoon inside the Anderson Athletic Center.

After trailing most of the first half Kalamazoo was able to pull ahead 34-32 with six minutes left in the half. The Hornets were up 37-36 with 4:18 remaining before the Cardinals went on an 11-5 run to close out the half ahead 47-41.

Concordia went ahead by 12 (67-55) with 12:41 left in the second half. Kalamazoo chipped away and made it a five-point game (80-75) with 2:32 remaining. The Hornets cut the deficit to four (85-81) with 17 seconds remaining, but were unable to get any closer than four in the closing seconds.

Kalamazoo shot 50 percent from the field while making 9-of-29 3-pointers (31 percent). Concordia shot 46.4 percent overall while hitting 12-of-26 3's. The Cardinals sank 24-of-32 free throws compared to 13-of-18 for the Hornets. Concordia held a 35-33 edge in rebounds.

Ben Reiter and Jack Smith each scored 17 points to lead the Hornets. 

Tanner Blyly scored 15 points with six rebounds while tying a school record with nine assists. 

Drew Sheckell added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting with a pair of free throws.

Kalamazoo is off until Jan. 8 when the Hornets open MIAA play on the road at Trine University.
