Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 86-78 to Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at home on Wednesday.

Despite scoring the first basket of the game, Kalamazoo trailed most of the first and went into halftime down 44-32.

Alma led by as many as 18 (65-47) with 11:28 left in regulation. The Hornets chipped away and cut the deficit to 10 (78-68) with 2:43 left, and eventually got within six (81-75) with a minute remaining. A turnover and a couple of missed shots allowed Alma to put the game out of reach at the end.

Alma shot 49.2 percent overall while making 14-of-29 3-pointers. The Scots sank 8-of-15 3's in the first half as they gained the early lead. Kalamazoo shot 39.5 percent overall while making just 6-of-30 3's. Alma outrebounded Kalamazoo 48-39.

Tanner Blyly led the Hornets with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting with six rebounds and five assists.

Jeremiah Vincent scored 17 points with seven rebounds and three steals. Ben Reiter added 11 points with five rebounds and three steals.

The Hornets are back in action at home Saturday, Feb. 1 with a 3 p.m. tip against Trine.
