Hamann Named Second Team All-MIAA

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Senior Forward Merritt Hamann of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was honored by the MIAA on Tuesday as a member of the All-MIAA Second Team.

Hamann, a four-year member of the team from Montague, Mich. (Montague HS), set career-highs in scoring, rebounds and assists despite the shortened eight-game season. He averaged a team-high 16.8 points per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from three-point range. His averages of 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game were also within the top-three best on the team.

Hamann set a new career-high with his 26-point performance against Alma on Feb. 13. He led the team in scoring in five of eight total games and tallied double-digit points in all but one game.

"We are excited for Merritt as this accomplishment is a result of the hard work he has put in the past four years," Head Coach Nick Giard said. "He's been a tremendous leader for our team and a huge part of the success we had during his career. He was one of the best players in the MIAA this season and it's awesome for our younger players to see that hard work pays off."

The senior ends his career with the Hornets with 466 total points, 277 rebounds and 74 assists.

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team finished its season with a 3-5 record overall and 2-4 in MIAA play, including season sweeps of Alma and Olivet.
