Men's Basketball Defeats Capital

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team defeated Capital University 76-71 at home Saturday afternoon.

Neither team led by more than four points in the first half as Capital took a 32-28 lead into halftime.

Capital scored the first basket of the second half before the Hornets used a 10-0 run to take a 38-34 lead with 16:16 remaining. Capital regained the lead (47-46) at the 11:04 mark and led by as many as six (61-55) with 6:25 remaining.

Kalamazoo trailed 64-61 with 3:26 left before and 8-0 run put the Hornets up 69-64 with 1:52 left. Capital twice cut the deficit to two before the Hornets closed out the 76-71 victory.

Capital shot 46.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent (5-15) from 3-point range. Kalamazoo shot 45.5 percent overall and 43.5 percent (10-23) from behind the arc. Capital made 14-of-20 free throws compared to 16-of-21 by Kalamazoo. Capital held a 37-29 advantage in rebounds, including 12-7 on the offensive end.

Ty Horky led Kalamazoo with 21 points and five rebounds in 36 minutes.

Lukas Broadsword scored 17 points with six rebounds and three assists. Josh Decker scored 15 points with six rebounds. DJ Courtney added 11 points. Bobby Samples finished with seven points and five assists.

Kalamazoo (2-2) returns to action Dec. 1 at Bluffton University.
