ANN ARBOR, Mich – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team fell Wednesday night at Concordia University, 92-78.

The Hornets took a 2-0 lead on a Lukas Broadsword layup just 14 seconds into the game but Concordia retook the lead for good less than a minute later. Kalamazoo hung within striking distance for much of the half but was unable to keep Concordia from taking a 44-32 lead into the break.

A Josh Decker three-pointer six minutes into the second half clipped the Concordia advantage to six points at 53-47, but a 12-3 run by the Cardinals stretched the lead back to 15, 65-50, with 11:54 remaining. With 4:07 left, Concordia took its biggest lead at 80-58 and Kalamazoo was unable to get the margin back within single digits before time expired.

Decker and Ty Horky led the way for Kalamazoo (3-5) with 20 points apiece. DJ Courtney had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Broadsword racked up eight points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Hornets shot 43% percent from the field (28-65), including a sizzling 14-29 (48.3%) from behind the three-point arc. Concordia had slight advantages in rebounds (30-28) and assists (19-15), but the free-throw line is where it really took advantage. The Cardinals sank 19-23 from the charity stripe, while the Hornets were limited to eight makes in nine attempts.

Kalamazoo will return to the friendly surroundings of Anderson Athletic Center when they host Chicago on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
