Lukas Broadsword of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Nov. 16).
The Hornets started their season 1-1 after splitting a pair of road games last week. Kalamazoo first defeated Manchester 90-86 before falling to Anderson 81-71 on its trip to Indiana.
Broadsword was the leading scorer for the Hornets between those two games, averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game. He was efficient against Manchester, shooting 8-11 with 10 of his 19 points coming down the stretch in the second half. Broadsword was the leading scorer against Anderson on 8-13 shooting. He has a shooting percentage of 66.7% early on in the season for a total of 37 points.
In his first season of collegiate basketball last season, Broadsword averaged 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game after starting 24 games. His rebounding numbers were the best on the team while being second in scoring and assists. He will continue to take steps forward and lead Kalamazoo into the 2022-23 season.
The Hornets will host Oberlin in their home opener on Saturday (Nov. 19), beginning at 3 p.m. in the Anderson Athletic Center.
