Ty Horky of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Dec. 13).

The men's basketball team faced tough competition last week as their first game was against the 2021-22 NCAA DIII national runner-up in Elmhurst. The Bluejays are receiving votes in the top-25 poll this season and defeated the Hornets 81-61. Kalamazoo also took on #14 Case Western Reserve and fell 93-58.

Horky led the team in scoring for the two games, averaging 13.5 points per game. He made nine of 15 shots for a 60% shooting percentage, including going four of seven (57.1%) from downtown and a perfect five of five from the free throw line. Against Elmhurst, he scored a total of 15 points while also scoring 12 against Case Western. Horky also averaged 2.5 rebounds and steals per game to chip in defensively.

This season, Horky is averaging the second most points on the team behind Josh Decker at 11.4 points per game. He is also contributing 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. As a freshman last season, Horky led the team with 12.6 points per game and is looking to help guide the team again this season.

The Hornets will play three games this week against Denison on Wednesday (Dec. 14), Capital on Thursday (Dec. 15), and Bluffton on Saturday (Dec. 17). The game on Wednesday will tip off at 7 p.m.
