Ty Horky Selected MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Ty Horky of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was selected as the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday (Nov. 20). This is the first time in Horky's four-year career that he has been named a conference player of the week.

Kalamazoo continued its season with a home game against Grace Christian (Nov. 15) and two road games at Bluffton (Nov. 17) and Defiance (Nov. 18). The Hornets went 3-0 on the week to improve to 4-1 on the season, defeating the Tigers 83-72, the Beavers 83-71, and the Yellow Jackets 74-59.

Horky was all over the court for Kalamazoo, leading the team in scoring at 19.0 points per game on 51.5% (17-33) shooting, including 50.0% (11-22) from 3-point land and 70.6% (12-17) from the free throw line. He was also the second-leading rebounder, assist man, and steals collector, behind Lukas Broadsword, at 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Early on in the season, Horky leads the MIAA in total points (93), 3-pointers made (16), and free throws made (23) while being second to Broadsword in total rebounds (38). Through five games, his averages are 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 50.9% from the field, 45.7% from the 3-point line, and 79.3% from the free throw line. 

The Hornets will continue their season with two home games following Thanksgiving break against Manchester on Monday (Nov. 27) and Chicago (Nov. 29) before playing Case Western on the road on Saturday (Dec. 2).
