KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's golf team capped off a record setting weekend with another award today as Travis Veenhuis has been named the MIAA Player of the Week.

Veenhuis, a junior from Grand Blanc, shot a six under 134 over the weekend at the Rose Hulman Invitational to earn medalist honors for the second consecutive year at that tournament. On Friday he became the first K golfer to shoot under 70 in a competitive round with a bogey free 65, a round which included three birdies and an eagle. He repeated the feat on Saturday with a 69 to finish atop the leader board.

Veenhuis also helped power the Hornets to a second place team finish. His 65 on Friday helped the team set a school record for lowest single round with a team score of 283.

A Second Team All-MIAA selection as a freshman, Veenhuis is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Coach Mitch Wilson said, "The team and I are so happy for Travis. To win the same tournament in back-to-back years is amazing and on top of that he shattered the K single round scoring record in round one. It was fun and impressive to watch!"

The Hornets will be back in action April 13-14th at the Shootout at Stonehedge in Richland.
