KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team defeated Alma College 1-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Tuesday.

The action-packed contest featured 36 total shots, but Kalamazoo's Kyle Hernandez was the only player to put one into the back of the net as his goal in the 53rd minute lifted the Hornets to victory. Joshua Robinson had the assist on the shot that deflected off an Alma defender and into goal.

"It was a great shot on target in a crowded area," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz. "I want them shooting in that situation."

Kalamazoo outshot Alma 19-17 overall, but the Scots held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

Jory Finkelberg took four shots while William Bennick had three shots to lead the offensive effort.

Beau Prey had seven saves in goal to earn the shutout for the Hornets.

"I salute our goalkeeper tonight," said Shabazz. "He led the line, played really strong, and gave a captain's effort."

Kalamazoo evened its record to 4-4 (2-2 MIAA) with the win while Alma fell to 6-2 (2-2 MIAA).

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Calvin.
