KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team lost 2-0 Saturday night to Trine University in the MIAA Tournament finals.

Trine's Tyler Murphy opened the scoring in the 51st minute with his 17th goal of the season. The Thunder then put the game away with a score in the 89th minute to claim the tournament title and an automatic spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Despite outshooting Trine 19-10 and sporting an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks, the Hornets were not able to capitalize on their opportunities. Thunder defenders helped keep the shutout intact on several occasions by denying point-blank Kalamazoo shots when the Trine keeper found himself out of position.

Trine outpaced K in saves 11-7, while Kalamazoo committed 14 fouls to the Thunder's 13 in a physical match that also featured three yellow cards.

Michele Alia led the Hornets with five shots while Chad Ewing tallied four.
