KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team hosted #13 Calvin to continue MIAA play on Saturday (Oct. 21). The Hornets played a challenging game with the nationally ranked Knights but unfortunately fell 1-0.

Before the game, Kalamazoo honored four seniors for senior night, including Michele Alia, Aidan Baas, Luke Bormann, and Shun Yonehara. Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz was honored before the game for gaining his 100th career win in the 3-0 victory over Adrian this past week.

Kalamazoo added Luke Bormann into the starting lineup with Gavin HoutkooperColin Halloran, Shun YoneharaAidan GilligPaul KearisEmilio RomoHenry PlumsteadChad EwingLucas Ruiz, and Jeremiah Heath

Both teams battled to possess the ball in the rain during the first half, as Kalamazoo finished with five shots (two on goal), and Calvin had four shots (one on goal). The first 45 minutes ended in a stalemate as the score was 0-0 heading into the break. About halfway through the second half, the only goal was scored by the Knight in the 66th minute. After a pass from the right side was hit into the box, the ball pinged around for a bit before Foster Garrett got a foot on in from five yards out and cashed in the opportunity. The Hornets had an excellent chance to tie the game in the 76th minute, as the Knights were called for a hand ball in the box. Alia stepped up to take the shot, but the Calvin goalkeeper guessed right and made the save to preserve the win.

Houtkooper finished with three saves on four opportunities. The Hornets had more shots (12-9) and corner kicks (7-6), while the Knights had more fouls (14-8), and both teams had four saves apiece.

Kalamazoo will finish the regular season and MIAA play with a road game at Albion on Wednesday (Oct. 25), beginning at 7 p.m.
