Ankley, Howrey Named All-MIAA

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Sam Ankley and Matt Howrey of the men's swimming and diving team have been selected as All-MIAA members for their performances this season and in the MIAA Championships last week. 

Ankley was selected to the All-MIAA team and named Co-Most Valuable Diver following his performance at the MIAA Championships. Sam earned a second-place finish in 1-meter diving, earning a score of 461.40. He also finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 486.80. Ankley had the highest combined diving score through 22 dives on both boards. 

A sophomore from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Central), Ankley holds Kalamazoo's top diving scores this season from all four diving events. He won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at Olivet on February 6 and had the top score in the 1-meter dive at the Hope/Alma meet on Feb. 12. 

Howrey, a senior from Keller, Texas (Keller HS), had several strong finishes in the MIAA Championships. His best finish was second place in the 400 Individual Medley on day two of the championships, wrapping up the race with a time of 4:08.67. On day one, He finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.68 and finished seventh in the 200 IM at 1:58.28. Howrey was also a key member on four of Kalamazoo's five relays. 

Howrey holds top times for the Hornets in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 freestyle events this season. He won the 100 and 200 breaststroke races at Olivet and the 400 IM against Hope and Alma. 

This is Howrey's third time receiving All-MIAA honors and the second time for Ankley.
