Ben Pickrel of the Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 6).
The Hornets finished the regular season with a home dual against Alma on Feb. 3 and came away with a 187-85 win after taking first in 12 of the 16 events against the Scots.
Pickrel was the leading point-getter for the Hornets after winning the 100 Back (:52.92), 200 Back (1:57.20), and 200 IM (2:02.94) while also being a part of the 200 Medley Relay team that took first (1:38.16). These were the only events he competed in on the day. So far this season, Pickrel has the fastest times on the team in the 50 Back (:23.92), 100 Back (:52.03), 200 Back (1:54.39), and 200 IM (1:58.00). The junior has also swam in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 200 Fly, and 400 IM in his career at Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo will next compete at the MIAA Championships, which Hope will host on Feb. 21-24.
