Men's Tennis opens season at ITA Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team opened the 2014-15 season at the ITA Central Region Tournament on Friday.

No. 5 Branden Metzler won his first two singles matches and will face No. 20 David Liu on Saturday in the Round of 32. On Friday, Metzler defeated Eric Pohl (Augustana) 6-4, 6-2 and Parker Chang (Washington Univ.) 6-2, 6-2.

David DeSimone won his first round match 6-3, 6-1 over Landon Walker of Monmouth. DeSimone was then defeated by No. 19 Nicolas Chua (Chicago) 6-2, 6-1.

Guillermo Dominguez lost his first round match, but the newcomer remains alive in the consolation bracket and is scheduled to compete on Saturday.

In doubles, Alberto Ayala and Jacob Scott defeated Jonathon Elsey and Connor Woolf (Augustana) 9-8(4) before falling 8-2 to No. 1 Jeremy Bush/Ross Putterman of Washington Univ.

No. 15 DeSimone/Metzler lost their first round match, but the pair defeated Parker Chang and Eric Zishka (Wash U.) 8-6 to advance in the consolation bracket.
