KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team overcame a 2-1 deficit after doubles to defeat Wabash College 6-3 in Central Region competition on Saturday.
Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to open the match. The Little Giants earned narrow wins at No. 2 (9-7) and No. 1 (8-5) to take the early lead.
Kalamazoo quickly took a lead in singles as Branden Metzler (6-1, 6-3) and David DeSimone (6-2, 6-1) won at one and two singles, respectively.
Wabash won in straight sets at three singles to even the score at 3-3. Eric De Witt battled at No. 4 singles and came from behind to win a third set tiebreaker 8-6 to give the Hornets a one point advantage (6-1, 3-6, 7-6(6)).
The Hornets followed with straight set victories at No. 5 (Spenver Navarre) and No. 6 (Elan Dantus) to clinch the 6-3 win, with scores of 7-5, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Kalamazoo (3-1) hits the road next week for a pair of matches at Coe College. The Hornets face Coe on Saturday, Feb. 28 followed by Luther College on Sunday, March 1.
