Kalamazoo College's Ian Yi was selected today as one of 32 participants to compete in the 2021 NCAA III Singles Championships. In addition, the doubles team of Ian Yi and Daniel Henry was selected as the second alternate in the 16-team doubles field.

The singles and doubles championships are scheduled to take place May 28-30 at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. This follows the team championships scheduled for May 24-26 at the same location.

Yi holds a record of 6-1 in singles this spring and a 30-10 career record. He earned All-MIAA First Team honors and was MIAA Player of the Week on March 22. Yi competed in the 2019 singles championships in Kalamazoo. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID.

Yi and Henry were 8-0 in doubles this spring.

According to the NCAA release:

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Any singles player or doubles team that scratches from the tournament will be replaced in sequential order by the published list of alternates. The draw for the individual championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on May 26 not before 5 p.m. Eastern time.
