Adnan Alousi of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was chosen as the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week selection on Monday (Sept. 26). Entering his second year as a Hornet, this is Alousi's second time earning the honor.
The men's tennis team traveled down to St. Louis, Mo., to participate in the ITA Central Region as the tournament was held at Washington University. In addition, four Kalamazoo athletes traveled to play in the singles and doubles tournaments in Alousi, Peter Fitzgerald, Tieran Rafferty, and Gabe Vidinas.
Alousi went 5-1 in singles matches and ultimately won the consolation bracket finals. However, he and his doubles partner in Rafferty were defeated in their only doubles competition by a 2-8 finish.
After dropping the round of 64 singles match 3-6, 4-6, Alousi got rolling in the first consolation match-up with a 6-0, 6-2 win. After that, he swept his second match 6-0, 6-0, and then won a quarterfinals match 6-2, 6-2. The most challenging weekend match came in the semifinals when Alousi completed the comeback to win 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. He was supposed to play the sixth seed in the consolation finals but ultimately won by walkover.
The team will continue its season in the spring, with matches beginning in March.
