Casey Johnson of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Apr. 4).
Kalamazoo played one road match at Adrian (Mar. 28) this past week. The Hornets squeaked out a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs to move to 2-0 in the MIAA.
Johnson won both of his matches against the Bulldogs to help the Hornets gain the win. Along with his doubles partner, Adnan Alousi, the duo won the #2 doubles match 8-3. Then in his #4 singles match, Johnson handily won 6-0, 6-2. On the season, he is 5-5 (2-0 MIAA) in #2 doubles matches and 4-5 (2-0 MIAA) in #4 singles matches.
The fifth-year senior was selected to the All-MIAA First team as a sophomore and the second team as a freshman and a junior. He is also a three-time MIAA Player of the Week and a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member. For his career, Johnson is 44-28 (20-0 MIAA) in singles matches and 29-24 (13-0 MIAA) in doubles matches. He has primarily played in #2/3 doubles and #4/5 singles at Kalamazoo.
The Hornets will continue MIAA play this week with a road match at Albion on Wednesday (Apr. 5).
