Men's Tennis Headed to Cleveland for Opening Round of NCAA III Tournament

The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team will travel to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, for the opening rounds of the NCAA III Championships.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to face Ohio Northern University in a first round match on Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

Kalamazoo earned the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships with a 5-3 win over Hope College in the MIAA Tournament championship this past Saturday. Kalamazoo won the MIAA regular season championship with a 6-0 record and enters the national tournament with an overall record of 11-7. The Hornets are currently ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Ohio Northern, Kalamazoo's first round opponent, earned a bid to the national tournament by winning the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship with a 5-2 win over Otterbein University. The Polar Bears are 13-7 overall.

The winner of the Kalamazoo/Ohio Northern match will face Case Western in a second round match on Saturday, May 6. Case Western is ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and is 28-4 overall.

Transylvania (9-9) and Mary Washington (9-10) will face off in the other first round match on Friday at Case Western. The winner of that match will face Denison (25-3) on Saturday. Mary Washington is ranked 12th in the Atlantic South Region. Denison is ranked fifth in the Central Region.

Second round winners will meet on Sunday, May 7, with the winner moving on to the national quarterfinals May 13 in Orlando, Fla.
