Casey Johnson of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was selected as the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday (May 1). This is the fourth time in his career that Johnson has collected player of the week honors, with two coming last season and the other coming in his sophomore season.

Kalamazoo competed in the MIAA Tournament this past week, hosting Trine (Apr. 27) and Hope (Apr. 29) as the top seed after winning the regular season title. The Hornets doubled down and won the MIAA Tournament Championship after defeating the Thunder 5-1 and the Flying Dutchmen 5-3. The men's tennis team received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win.

Johnson took care of business by winning both his singles and doubles matches in the tournament. Along with his doubles partner Adnan Alousi, Johnson defeated Trine 8-4 and Hope 8-7 (7-2) in the #2 doubles spot. Then, he beat his Thunder counterpart 6-0, 6-2 and his Flying Dutchman opponent 6-1, 6-3 in the #4 singles spot. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Johnson is 9-9 (5-1 MIAA) in his singles matches, and 11-7 (6-0 MIAA) in his doubles matches.

In his career, the fifth-year senior is 49-30 (23-1 MIAA) in singles matches and 35-25 (17-0 MIAA) in doubles matches. Johnson is a two-time All-MIAA Second Team member and a one-time All-MIAA First Team member. He was also a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member and an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

The Hornets are one of 44 teams selected to the NCAA DIII Tournament. Kalamazoo will head to Cleveland, Ohio, to face Ohio Northern in the first round on Friday (May 5), beginning at 2 p.m.
