Alex Fleming of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was named the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 2). In his first tournament as a collegiate tennis player; Fleming was named the player of the week for the first time in his brief career.
Kalamazoo hosted the ITA Central Regional at Stowe Stadium from Sept. 29-Oct. 2, with Fleming and Lucas Preston competing for the Hornets.
Fleming finished the singles portion of the tournament 2-2, making it to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. After falling in the round of 128 in the main bracket, he defeated Justin Fay from Hope 4-6, 7-6(2), 10-6 in the round of 32 in the consolation bracket. Fleming also went on to defeat Peyton Specht from Ohio Northern in the round of 16 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. He eventually fell to Arturo Mendoza from Anderson 1-6, 6-1, 10-6 in the quarterfinals. Fleming and Preston also competed in the doubles portion of the tournament and fell twice.
The Hornets will turn their attention to the spring season, with the first match being at home against Adrian on Saturday (Apr. 6).
