Men's Tennis Trio Named the All-MIAA First Team

The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team had three student-athletes named to the All-MIAA First Team on Wednesday (May 1). Gabe Vidinas was selected as the MIAA Most Valuable Player for the second straight season and to his fourth All-MIAA team (three firsts and a second). Adnan Alousi was named to the first team after being a second-team honoree in his first two seasons. In his first collegiate season, Alex Fleming was also a first-team member.

Kalamazoo finished the 2024 regular season with a 7-10 record, including a 6-1 MIAA record, which resulted in its 89th MIAA Championship in program history.

As a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Vidinas has improved his play in the #1 singles and doubles spots for Kalamazoo in 2024. He is 11-6 in that first singles spot, including an undefeated 7-0 in the MIAA. Vidinas and Fleming have played most of their doubles matches together, and Vidinas is currently 8-9 with another undefeated 7-0 MIAA record. This is Kalamazoo's third consecutive MIAA MVP selection, as Ian Yi took home the honor in 2022, and Vidinas won last season. Vidinas becomes the 12th Hornet in program history to win the MIAA MVP twice.

A Huntington Woods, Mich. junior, Alousi primarily competes in the #2 singles and doubles spots. He is currently 11-5 in singles play with a 5-1 MIAA record. Julian Bilbao became Alousi's doubles partner by the time conference play came around, and Alousi has a 6-10 doubles record but has gone 5-1 in conference play.

Fleming is in his first season with the Hornets from Troy, Mich., and has primarily settled into the lineup's #1 doubles and #3 singles spots. He is 11-8 in singles matches so far, with a perfect 7-0 MIAA record. As stated above, Vidinas eventually became his doubles partner, as Fleming has a 7-9 doubles record, including going 7-0 during conference play.
