Kalamazoo College's Mark Riley was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Atheltic Association (MIAA) Men's Tennis Coach of the Year on Thursday. The award is a vote of the coaches based on the achievements of their colleagues during regular and postseason competition.
Riley guided the Hornets to a share of the MIAA regular season championship with a 6-1 conference record before winning the MIAA Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA III Championships.
"I share this honor with our student-athletes and the entire Kalamazoo College community," Riley said. "Winning championships is our goal at the start of each season. Our group showed outstanding grit and determination to recover from a 1-8 record to earn regular and tournament MIAA Championships. I couldn't be more proud of this team's stellar work on the court and in the classroom."
Riley has 227 wins in his 17 years at K and 429 overall. His 400th career victory came in a 9-0 win over Alma College on April 6, 2022. The 1982 Kalamazoo College graduate was a Division III All-American and two-time captain for the Hornets. Riley was inducted into the Kalamazoo College Hall of Fame in August 2022.
