Softball splits pair of walk-off games at Olivet

OLIVET - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a pair of walk-off games at Olivet on Saturday. Olivet won the opener, 2-1, with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh, and Kalamazoo won the second game, 6-5, with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Kalamazoo lost the opener 2-1 as Olivet pushed the game-winning run across in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Comets scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning before Kalamazoo evened the score in the top of the second. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the game-winning RBI single in the seventh.

Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game compared to four for Olivet.

Megan Malish was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Abby Anderson doubled and scored the Hornets' only run. Dana Page, Emma Patrash, and Becca Romero each singled.

Rayanne Burl drove in Madeline Sinkovich for the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning in the second game.  Burl also drove in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Olivet led 2-1 after the first inning before Kalamazoo evened the score at 2-2 at the end of the third inning. The Comets pulled ahead with three runs in the fifth, but Kalamazoo scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. A pair of singles in the ninth and a sacrifice bunt set the stage for Burl's walk-off single up the middle.

Kalamazoo pounded out 15 hits in the game while Olivet had 13. Each team's pitcher faced 42 opposing batters in the game.

Dana Page, Madeline Sinkovich, Abby Anderson, and Rayanne Burl each had three hits in the game. Page had a triple while Sinkovich and Anderson each doubled. Megan Malish was 2-for-2 in the game while Emma Patrash had a triple.

Victoria Najacht earned the complete game win on the mound going all nine innings.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to wrap up the 2013 season with a non-conference doubleheader at Aquinas College on Sunday, April 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
