Softball drops doubleheader to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Alma on Wednesday, losing 9-2 in the opener and 6-3 in game two.

Kalamazoo took a 1-0 lead in the second inning only to see Alma tie it up in the third. The Scots pulled ahead with a run in the fourth before taking a 6-1 lead with four runs in the fifth. Kalamazoo made it a 6-2 game, but three more runs for Alma in the seventh led to thee 9-2 final.

Alma had nine hits in the game while limiting Kalamazoo to four. Dana Page was 2-for-3 with a triple. Emma Patrash and Megan Malish each had a single, with Page and Malish each driving in a run.

Kalamazoo took a 3-0 lead in the second game and led 3-2 after three innings. Alma scored two more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the 6-3 advantage while holding Kalamazoo scoreless the rest of the way.

Each team had seven hits in the game with Alma also taking advantage of two Kalamazoo errors.

Erin DuRoss was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. Paige Maguire, Megan Malish, Victoria Najacht and Kennedy Boulton each had singles. Maguire, Najacht and Boulton each had an RBI.

Kalamazoo closes out the MIAA season at home on Saturday, April 26 with a doubleheader against Olivet beginning at 2 p.m. A dedication ceremony for the new field will take place prior to the game.
