Softball loses doubleheader to No. 8 Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball team lost the first game of a doubleheader with Trine 13-2 on Saturday.

Kalamazoo played the No. 8 Thunder even through four innings as the score was tied 2-2. Trine pulled away with four runs in the fifth and put the game out of reach with seven runs in the sixth.

Paige Maguire evened the score for Kalamazoo with a home run to left in the second inning. Abby Anderson evened the score again with a home run to right in the fourth.

Isabella Kirck, Querubin Dubois and Maddy Sinkovich also had a hit in the game.

Trine escaped with a 5-4 win in the second game. 

Kalamazoo scored first in the top of the first, but Trine quickly evened the score in the bottom half. The Thunder added four runs over the next two innings to take a 5-1 lead, but Kalamazoo made it a 5-4 game with three runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by Abby Anderson's second home run of the day.

Kalamazoo put a runner on in the sixth and seventh inning, but was unable to push the tying run across the plate.

Kalamazoo outhit Trine 8-7 in the second game. Anderson had two hits and two RBIs while Paige Maguire and Querubin Dubois each had a pair of hits.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader at Hope on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
