Softball Splits Games in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team was defeated by St. Lawrence 4-3 in its first game before picking up its first win over Farmingdale State by a score of 5-3. 

Game One

St. Lawrence got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kalamazoo responded with an Alaina Kirschman RBI single in the second to tie the game. Alyssa Heitkamp scored on a St. Lawrence error in the fourth to give Kalamazoo the lead. 

After two St. Lawrence runs in the fifth, Nina Szalkiewicz delivered a game-tying base hit to drive in Ashley Schiffer. The Saints, however, answered with a game winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a Kalamazoo wild pitch. 

Szalkiewicz, Schiffer, Hayleigh Alamo, and Keelin McManus each picked up two hits for the Hornets. 

Game Two

The Hornets got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Hayleigh Alamo RBI base hit. Following Farmingdale State's two runs in the second, Kalamazoo put together four unanswered runs to make it a 5-2 game. A run for the Rams in the final inning secured a 5-3 win for Kalamazoo. 

Alamo delivered a big game for Kalamazoo as the senior came through with two hits, including a home run, while driving in three runs. 

Andrea MacMichael and Anna Majewski both also collected two hits and two runs. The catcher Majewski also drove in a run.

Pitcher Sammi Luzadre pitched a complete-game for Kalamazoo. The sophomore allowed two earned runs on eight hits while striking out one batter. 

Kalamazoo returns to play two games on Saturday with the first scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
