Jordan Cook of the Kalamazoo College softball team was selected as the MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday (Mar. 20). This is the first time in her career that the sophomore has collected player of the week honors.

The softball team played six neutral site games in the past four days (Mar. 16-19) in Winter Haven, Fla. The Hornets went 4-2 last week with wins against Rutgers-Camden (6-1), Wisconsin-Stout (8-3), St. Norbert (7-6), and Franklin & Marshall (8-3) and then losses to Smith (5-4) and Lake Forest (2-0).

In the circle, Cook went 2-1 in three starts with a 2.80 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 20 innings. The first win came against Rutgers-Camden, where Cook pitched a complete game and allowed one run on four hits and a walk while tying a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Her other win was against Franklin & Marshall, where she also pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts. The loss was against Smith when Cook surrendered four runs on five hits and a walk in six innings.

Cook has appeared in 17 games with 15 starts in her first two seasons, pitching 101.2 innings with nine complete games. She has a 4.13 ERA and 73 strikeouts, good for 5.03 strikeouts per seven innings. Cook has only issued 11 walks in her time so far at Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo will continue playing in Winter Haven, Fla., with six more games on Monday through Thursday (Mar. 20-23).
