Softball Opens MIAA Play With Sweep of Olivet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team opened the MIAA season with a doubleheader sweep of Olivet at home Friday afternoon. Both games ended after five innings with the Hornets winning 14-3 and 22-5.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored four runs in the first, two in the second and eight in the third to take a 14-0 lead. Olivet scored three in the top of the fifth.

Brynna Garden had three hits including a double and a triple with five RBIs. Sam Moss also had three hits including a double and an RBI.

Lucy Hart had two hits with two RBIs. Lizzy Rottenberk and Cecilia Schihl each had a hit and two RBIs.

Moss also earned the win on the mound with three strikeouts in five innings.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored a run in the top of the first only to fall behind as Olivet scored four runs in the bottom half. The Hornets regained the lead with five runs in in the top of second before adding 10 in the third and six in the fourth. Olivet added one more run in the bottom of the fifth leading to the 22-5 final.

Sam Moss had a pair of doubles in the game with five RBIs. Julia Rambo had two hits including a double and two RBIs.

Lizzy Rottenberk, Lucy Hart and Natalie Gross each had a triple in the game. Rottenberk scored three times and had two RBIs. Hart had two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. Gross had two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Jaycee Rider also had two hits in the game while scoring four runs and driving in two.

Jordan Cook earned the win with four strikeouts in five innings.
