Softball Takes Two from Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College softball team upped its conference record back to .500 with a doubleheader sweep over Saint Mary's on Saturday,9-1 (six innings) and 11-4.

Game One

The game was scoreless until the third inning, when Kalamazoo put five runs on the board on five hits and an error. Saint Mary's scored its one run in the bottom of the innings, but the Hornets scored three more in the fourth and one in the sixth. 

Kalamazoo outhit Saint Mary's 12-3 in the game and the Belles made the lone error. The Hornets left four runners on base compared to the Belles' three. 

Lucy Hart was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Sam Moss (two doubles), Brynna Garden, and Jaycee Rider also had multi-hit games, with Moss, Garden, and Bella Caza collecting two RBI a piece. 

Sam Moss improved to 9-5 in the circle by allowing one run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in a complete game. 

Game Two

Both teams scored a run in the first, with Kalamazoo taking a 4-1 lead in the second. Saint Mary's battled back with a run in the third and fourth to cut the deficit to one. However, the Hornets would score one in the fifth and six in the sixth to pull away, as the Belles also added one more in the sixth. 

Kalamazoo outhit Saint Mary's 16-14, and the Hornets made the game's lone error. 

Lucy Hart and Brynna Garden both were 3-4 as Hart had a double and two RBI, and Garden led the team with four RBI. Sam Moss, Emma Newlove, Julia Rambo, and Jaycee Rider also had multi-hit performances.

Jordan Cook (7-7) went five innings and allowed four runs on 13 hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Sam Moss pitched the final two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
