Lucy Hart of the Kalamazoo College softball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Apr. 18).
The Hornets played four doubleheaders this past week against Alma (Apr. 10), Adrian (Apr. 11), and Saint Mary's (Apr. 15) in conference play and against Manchester (Apr. 13) in non-conference action. Kalamazoo went 4-4, dropping two to Alma (9-2 and 13-5) and Adrian (5-4 and 4-1) while sweeping Manchester (6-5 and 6-3) and Saint Mary's (9-1 and 11-4).
Hart was on fire at the plate for the Hornets, hitting .593 with 16 hits in 27 official at-bats and scoring nine runs. Four of those 16 hits were doubles, helping her slugging percentage be .741 in the eight games, and she also had nine RBI. Hart also walked twice and had an on-base percentage of .621, while stealing two bases. She hit safely in seven of the eight games with six multi-hit games. Hart's best performance came against Saint Mary's, where she was 7-8 in the two games with two doubles, five RBI, and five runs scored. On the season, Hart leads the team in batting average (.447), hits (42), doubles (14), on-base percentage (.519), and slugging percentage (.745). She is also tied for the team lead with four home runs.
The senior was selected to the All-MIAA First Team last season and has also been named MIAA Player of the Week once in her career. Hart is an Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete, a CSC (CoSIDA) Academic All-District member, and a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member. In 95 career games, Hart has a slashline of .396/.458/.591 with 124 hits, 33 doubles, five triples, six home runs, and 73 RBI. She has also scored 79 runs, drawn 33 walks, and stolen four bases.
Kalamazoo will have just one doubleheader this week at Hope on Saturday (Apr. 22).
