Lizzy Rottenberk of the Kalamazoo College softball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Apr. 23).

The Hornets continued their season with three home doubleheaders against Olivet on Apr. 17, Aquinas on Apr. 18, and Hope on Apr. 20. Kalamazoo went 3-3 on the week with a sweep over the Comets (8-0 in 6 inn. and 10-3 wins), two losses to the Saints (7-2 and 11-10 in 8 inn.), and a split with the Flying Dutch (3-2 loss and 6-0 win).

Rottenberk hit .450 in six games last week with nine hits, eight stolen bases, seven runs scored, two RBI, and a triple. She had a hit in five of the six games, with her best performance coming in game two against Aquinas when she went 3-3 with two walks, a triple, three runs scored, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Rottenberk broke two records in game one against Olivet when she stole her 21st base this season, breaking Querubin Dubois' record of 20 in 2015, and then scored her 95th career run, breaking Andrea MacMichael's (2016-19) record of 94. MacMichael also held the record for career at-bats at 426, which Rottenberk broke with her 427th against Aquinas in game one. In that same game, Rottenberk became the all-time hits leader at 134, surpassing Lucy Hart (2020-23), who had 133 hits in 105 games in her COVID-shortened career. Finally, Rottenberk stole her 61st base in game two against Hope, surpassing Izzy Kirck (2015-18), who stole 60.

This season, Rottenberk is hitting .326 with a .392 on-base percentage, 30 hits, three triples, 27 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, and 10 walks. She is in the top 10 in the MIAA for stolen bases (1st), triples (4th), and runs scored (6th). In her four-year career, she has a .321 average, 140 hits, 15 doubles, eight triples, a home run, 56 RBI, 101 runs scored, 61 stolen bases, and 37 walks.

Kalamazoo will continue its season with three road doubleheaders at Albion on Thursday (Apr. 25), Alma on Saturday (Apr. 27), and Siena Heights on Sunday (Apr. 28).
